The Protagonist’s Place

Launch Party!!

To feel young again, women buy expensive skincare and cosmetics, get Botox, dye their hair. And read YA.

Those are generalized statements… I don’t actually do any of the first three things, but you better believe I read YA. And go to LAUNCH PARTIES!!

Suzanne Collin’s, Sunrise on the Reaping, the Hunger Games second prequel was released last night. Before the local Launch Party, I was high-knee running in place with my hands up in the air, “Who wants to go to the LAUNCH PARTY?” I screeched. My family was unamused.

The party was a fun mix of late teens, young adults, middle-aged women (crazy that’s me!) and senior citizens (embrace it Mom!). IMO, us older gals fit right in… but Regina’s Mom probably felt the same way.

The event was a blast and the perfect break from the monotony of Monday evenings.

We played trivia (who freaking knows what room number Katniss’ prep team was in???), did a scavenger hunt (Go District Two- Woot Woot), sipped on themed drinks, and anxiously waited for the clock to chime 9pm (West Coast :)) so we could buy the newest book in the best-selling series.

Maybe we don’t read YA to feel young. Maybe we do. And maybe we don’t need a reason other than because it’s fun and exciting and easy and something different than grocery shopping and laundry and angry clients and traffic.

Whatever the reason, I cannot wait to dive in. Thanks Suzanne Collins. Keep ’em comin!
